Information on Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement
On April 18, 2014, the Department of the Navy published the Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS). The Draft SEIS assesses the potential environmental impacts of establishing a cantonment facility with family housing and live-fire training range complex in support of the relocation of approximately 5,000 Marines and 1,300 family members from Okinawa, Japan to Guam.
The Draft SEIS is not the final decision and may change following the public comment period. Public input is critical to the SEIS process, and information and viewpoints provided will better inform decisions made by the Department of the Navy and Guam's local leaders. A final decision will not be made until a Final SEIS is completed early next year. A Record of Decision between the Department of the Navy and the Government of Guam will also be issued in 2015.
The public is encouraged to review the Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement and provide comments to the Department of the Navy.
Comments may be submitted online at the Department of the Navy's website here or via mail at:
Joint Guam Program Office (Forward)
P.O. Box 153246
Santa Rita, Guam 96915
Comments may be submitted until July 2, 2014.
