Congresswoman Bordallo speaks during a Natural Resources Committee markup of H.R. 4402, the Guam Military Training and Readiness Act of 2013. The Natural Resources Committee reported the bill out of committee by unanimous consent.
Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today withdrew H.R. 4402 from consideration during a mark-up hearing of the House Committee on Natural Resources. Congresswoman Bordallo attempted to substitute the alternative language proposed by the Navy and Fish and Wildlife Service on the compatibility of placing an SDZ over the Guam National Wildlife Refuge. However, House Republicans could not agree to include language proposed by the Congresswoman that would require the Department of the Interior to study the feasibility of relocating or reestablishing the refuge at an alternate location.
Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today responded to concerns on H.R. 4402 and did not offer the bill as an amendment to the FY15 National Defense Authorization Act during today’s HASC full committee mark-up. The Congresswoman, following discussions and correspondence with local leaders and the original landowners, agrees that the community should be given adequate time to fully consider the Navy’s preferred alternative for the live-fire training range complex.

Bordallo today attended a hearing of the House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Fisheries, Wildlife, Oceans, and Insular Affairs to discuss H.R. 4402, the Guam Military Training and Readiness Act of 2014. H.R. 4402 was introduced by Congresswoman Bordallo to address possible impediments of establishing a surface danger zone (SDZ) above the Guam National Wildlife Refuge to support a live-fire training range complex for the Marine Corps realignment.
Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today attended a hearing of the House Armed Services Committee to address the President’s budget proposal for the Department of the Army for fiscal year 2015. During the hearing, Congresswoman Bordallo discussed the successes of positioning a THAAD battery on Guam and the Army’s efforts to maintain this capability on Guam for the foreseeable future.
Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today attended a posture hearing of the House Armed Services Committee to address the President’s budget proposal for the Department of the Navy for fiscal year 2015. Congresswoman Bordallo stressed the need to maintain a robust depot-level ship repair facility with dry dock capability on Guam to support readiness in the Asia-Pacific region. She also highlighted the importance of the signing of a landfill permit for a Futenma Replacement Facility and removing restrictions on Government of Japan funds for the buildup.
