The Congresswoman applauded the President for his four point strategy to defeat ISIL.  She underscored the importance of this week’s debate on the authorization of force against ISIL.

Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today attended a meeting of the Economic Adjustment Committee (EAC) to discuss civilian infrastructure needs on Guam relating to the realignment of Marines from Okinawa. The meeting is a result of a provision sponsored by Congresswoman Bordallo in the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2014 that requires the DoD to host an EAC meeting to further address Guam’s civilian infrastructure requirements.

Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today announced that Bruce Merrill has been appointed to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

Bruce is the son of Julie and Felix Manglona of Inarajan and graduated from Father Duenas Memorial School in May 2014. Bruce was nominated by Congresswoman Bordallo, and competed with nominees nationwide for admission into the Naval Academy.

Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today issued the following statement regarding President Obama’s nomination of General Joseph F. Dunford Jr., USMC, to serve as the 36th Commandant of the Marine Corps. General Dunford is currently the Commander, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan and previously served as Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps. The U.S. Senate will vote on his confirmation before he assumes his new position.

Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo recently attended the graduation and commissioning ceremony at the United States Naval Academy (USNA). At the ceremony, 1,068 men and women were commissioned as Navy ensigns or Marine Corps second lieutenants. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel was the primary speaker at the ceremony, and he was accompanied by Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Jonathan Greenert, and Commandant of the Marine Corps, General James Amos.

Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today announced that the House of Representatives has passed H.R. 4435, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2015, by a vote of 325 yeas to 98 noes. H.R. 4435 authorizes and sets policy for the Department of Defense for fiscal year 2015. The bill will be reconciled with the Senate’s version of the NDAA during a Conference Committee later this year.

Bordallo today announced that the House Committee on Natural Resources has reported out an amended H.R. 4402, the Guam Military Training and Readiness Act, by unanimous consent. The amended H.R. 4402, which was submitted as an amendment in the nature of a substitute, reflects compromise language developed by the Department of the Navy and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
