Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo

Representing the People of Guam

Statement on Nomination of General Joseph Dunford to be Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff

May 5, 2015
Press Release

Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today issued the following statement on President Barack Obama’s nomination of General Joseph F. Dunford, Jr., USMC, to serve as the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

“I applaud President Obama’s selection of General Joseph Dunford to serve as the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. As a commander in both Iraq and Afghanistan, and as the current Commandant of the Marine Corps, General Dunford has a breadth of experience that will serve our men and women in uniform well if he is confirmed by the Senate. I know that he will provide good advice and counsel to our Command in Chief, President Obama.  General Dunford has also been a friend of Guam and his leadership has been critical to moving forward with the realignment of Marines from Okinawa to Guam. As the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, he will be an important partner as we continue to rebalance to the Asia-Pacific region. I hope that the Senate will act expeditiously to confirm him, and I look forward to continue working with him in his new capacity.”
