2012 Congressional Arts Competition Exhibit Unveiled
Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo and the Guam Council on the Arts and Humanities Agency (CAHA) today announced the opening of the 2012 Congressional Arts Competition exhibit at the CarsPlus showroom in Maite. The Congressional Arts Competition, An Artistic Discovery, is a nation-wide annual high school arts competition sponsored by Members of the U.S. House of Representatives.
The year’s Congressional Art Competition features 42 entries from both public and private schools and was open to all Guam high school students. The submitted artwork will be judged by a panel of local artists and the winner will have his or her artwork displayed for an eleven month exhibit in the Cannon tunnel that leads to the U.S. Capitol Building. The overall winner will be announced at an award ceremony on Monday, May, 21, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at the CarsPlus showroom. The winning artist will also be awarded a roundtrip ticket to Washington D.C., courtesy of United Airlines, to attend the official reception for the Congressional Art Competition winners on June 20, 2012.
“The Congressional Arts Competition is an excellent opportunity for high school students to demonstrate their creativity and gain national recognition for their work,” Congresswoman Bordallo said today. “Guam has many talented artists and I look forward to increased participation in future Congressional Arts Competitions. I thank the Guam Council on the Arts and Humanities Agency for their assistance in organizing this event.”
