Guam Receives $1,675,547 in Federal Grants for Guam Behavioral Health and Wellness Center, Homeland Security

Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) awarded two grants totaling $1,675,547 to the Guam Behavioral Health and Wellness Center and the Guam Homeland Security Office of Civil Defense.

 

• $1,426,801 was awarded to the Guam Behavioral Health and Wellness Center through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The grant will be used to fund Guam’s PEACE Partnerships for Success program to prevent and reduce underage drinking and youth and adult tobacco use. 

 

• $248,746 was awarded to the Guam Homeland Security Office of Civil Defense through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to support the Guam Tsunami Program, which is responsible for providing island residents and visitors with the training, planning, organization, and equipment to effectively respond to all natural and manmade disasters and emergencies.  

 

“I am pleased that the Guam Behavior Health and Wellness Center was awarded a significant grant to help curb underage drinking and tobacco use,” said  Congresswoman Bordallo. “These funds will be used to promote healthier lifestyles for young adults on Guam and improve positive behavioral changes to ensure our children lead healthier, fuller lives.
