Interior Awards Guam $2.5 Million for Conservation and Recreation Projects
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today issued the following statement on the U.S. Department of the Interior’s award of $2,501,621 to Guam territorial conservation and outdoor recreation projects on island. These federal funds, authorized by Congress, are distributed annually by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) from revenues generated from the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration and Dingell-Johnson Sport Fish Restoration Acts, supported by special excise taxes on firearms, bows, and ammunition (Pittman-Robertson), and sportfishing tackle, some boat engines and small engine fuel (Dingell-Johnson).
“We have a responsibility to care for and preserve our natural resources and these federal funds will help Guam agencies do just that. I am pleased that Secretary Zinke released $2.5 million in Congressionally authorized funds for support conservation and outdoor recreation projects on our island. As Guam’s representative in Congress, I continue working to secure additional federal investment in Guam to benefit our community and island. I look forward to GovGuam putting these federal funds to good use.”
