Statement on Ashton Carter Nomination to be Secretary of Defense

Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today issued the following statement after President Obama nominated Ashton Carter as the next Secretary of Defense.

“I congratulate Ash Carter on his nomination to be the next Secretary of Defense. As a former Deputy Secretary, he has a firm understanding of the needs of our servicemembers, and provides the DoD with a strategic thinking that will be needed to handle significant policy and budgetary challenges in the coming years. Ash also has a strong understanding of the Marine realignment’s importance to our national security and regional stability in the Asia-Pacific region. I worked closely with him during his time at the DoD, and I am confident that he will provide the leadership needed at the Pentagon to manage the range of issues facing our military services. I hope that the Senate will act swiftly on his confirmation, and I look forward to working with him over the coming years.”
