Statement on the Passing of Bert Unpingco
Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today issued the following statement on the passing of Mr. Bert Unpingco.
“I join the people of Guam in mourning the passing of Bert Reyes Unpingco who was fondly known as, “Mr. Tourism” in our local community. Bert dedicated his life to promoting Guam and was a pioneer of the tourism industry. He was instrumental in producing and publishing maps and books of the island of Guam that shared our scenic, cultural and historical sites and people. He wanted everyone on Guam, not just tourists, to learn about our island and culture to be able to promote it and share it with others. Bert encouraged people to visit our special sites for themselves and take pride in everything Guam has to offer. We are fortunate to have had Bert leading the way in the industry and promoting Guam with every move he made. Bert was a long-time family friend who embodied everything good about our island and I thank him for his years of service to our community. I extend my sincere condolences to his wife, Virginia and their family. My thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. He will be deeply missed.”
