USDA Rural Development Awards $300,000 to Grow Guam, LLC

May 9, 2013
Press Release

Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today announced that the USDA Rural Development has approved a Value Added Producer Grant of $300,000 for Grow Guam, LLC.

Grow Guam is the first to receive a highly competitive grant such as this in the Western Pacific, which they competed with other applicants across the nation. Additionally, they received the maximum amount allowable for working capital grants.

The Rural Development funds will be used to promote and market the sales of Grow Guam’s hydroponically grown lettuce and tomatoes. Grow Guam will use the funds to build marketing initiatives that will help build public awareness of the environmental, health, and economic benefits of consuming and purchasing locally grown produce while simultaneously stimulating company sales.

“The grant received today will help Grow Guam, LLC encourage island residents to buy fresh local produce,” said Congresswoman Bordallo. “By supporting our local farmers, we are helping to grow our economy in a long-term, sustainable way. Moreover, ‘Buy Local’ efforts help small businesses and promote economic self-sufficiency for our island.”
